Can you please provide advice on how to monitor firewall security events on the MX?

You can monitor via Event log.

You can also send it for a syslog server.

Just noticed our Z3 and MX85 units now how firewall logging in the tools!  Apologize for the redacted version, but you get the idea. Nice add Meraki, long overdue!
