MX 95 WAN 1 MA-SFP-1GB-LX10

Is anyone using MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 in a MX95 on WAN 1.

I cannot get the link up; I have it set to manually select SFP and Manual 1gbps full.

This exact same transceiver comes online in other devices, and the Meraki switches if set to 1gbps full. (using same cable and everything).  I also tried to use it in port 9 LAN and set to full 1gbps and same results.

The part is a legit Meraki part and ordered through a Cisco distributor. Even came in the Meraki packaging.

I do have a support case going but just wondering.

So I guess there is a bug that the 1gb sfp's in mx95 will not work unless both sides are set to auto 1/10. If both are set to hard 1gb it would not create a link. So as after all of that this is working, there is no known fix for this at this time.

The SFP is compatible, have you validated if you are using the correct fiber? Because this SFP is single-mode.

Yes, I have single mode Fiber patch cable, I know this part works as I can pull this exact same SFP from the MX95 with the same cable and plug it into a different device and I get a link.

Have you checked the MX logs to see if there is any message indicating the possible problem? If not, I suggest you wait for support to investigate to see if it is not a hardware issue.

The SFP can only be selected after a reboot (when used in a WAN port). So, if you haven't done that yet, power cycle it.

>manually select SFP and Manual 1gbps full

I would not do this.  An SFP should not need this configuration.

Otherwise, I bet this is a firmware issue.  Have you tried a firmware update?

I did reboot it with the SFP inserted.   The SFP is online and providing light.

I wonder if I need to set it to auto and auto, and then reboot, I'm not sure what the settings were when I rebooted it.

This MX 95 is running Current version: MX 18.211.5.2

I have MX85's running with this same type of transceiver, and the ISP made me set 1 GB full, and SFP as WAN port, and that is working fine.

I'm thinking it has to be a bug where it's trying to use 10gb on a 1gb transceiver, but I have no logs to go by. I'm going to see what support comes up with, or also try some other random transceivers.

I would try a firmware update if on 18.211.5.2 (in desperation).  19.1.8 is the current stable release candidate.

If the SFP is providing light, very odd that the link wouldn't come up if properly connected.

I suggest verifying the cabling:

 - Both fibers are clipped into their connectors fully.

 - Validate (using a phone camera or with other eye protection) that the Rx and Tx fibers are the correct way around.

I recently had an MX75 WAN port using that same SFP which I could not get online connecting to a switch. The switch said it was connected and was receiving packets but the MX75 reported link down.

It turned out that one of the fibers was sitting very slightly out of the connector so even though it felt solid, the MX75 Rx fiber wasn't connected properly.
