Local troubleshooting on MX

Hello, 

 

Which possibilities are there for local, on box, troubleshooting on a MX device?

 

If a device looses it´s connectivity due to a port failure or power outage. 

 

How does a network engineer pull the data loggs from a faulty MX device locally if there is now possibilty to reach the device by using the dashboard?

 

How does a network engineer troubleshoot a MX device without an active internet connection?

Your other option is to call support. They can sometimes see stuff you cannot with regards to dashboard connectivity. The device may show offline but they mat still be able to access it and recover it.

@jdsilva already provided a great answer, but I wanted to add a little something.

 

Via the local page Jason talked about you can also download a support data file. That file can be provided to Meraki Support to allow them to help you with figuring out what went wrong. Unfortunately that file is in a proprietary format that only support can read.

In addition to the above, I would recommend you setup a local syslog server if you want to be able to review that information on your own. It will at least allow you to review the logs up to the point at which the MX loses all local network connectivity.

 

Of course, in a small office, that may not be feasible. 🙂
