Would anyone know, whether by adding a redundant PSU to an already running MX (that has 2 modular PSU slots) causes any disruption? Or is it required to power down the box first?

It's hot-swappable, you can add without power down it.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.
