meraki GR12 and 6LowPAN issues

Hello all:

I've just had a meraki go system installed, with several GR12 APs and I'm encountering issues with my 'smart home' devices. Since the installation of the new switch and APs, I've lost all ability to connect these devices, utilizing 802.15.4,  to a thread network. I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues. I have several Apple TVs and a HomePod mini, serving as border routers but although I can see these devices in a Home Thread, I am unable to connect 'smart home' devices, such as Nanoleaf bulbs and Eve Energy plugs, to the Thread Network. Any ideas are very much appreciated. cheers

Hi @Stapler ,

I’m having the same issue myself. I don’t quite understand why thread devices don’t work. From what I'm reading, Thread creates its own mesh network, and it uses a Thread border router (such as an Apple TV or HomePod Mini) to interface with the wider IP network. This border router acts as an intermediary, allowing Thread devices to communicate with other devices and services outside the Thread network.

So, technically, Thread should work with any access point as long as you have a Thread border router in place to facilitate the connection. The access point itself doesn't need to have special Thread capabilities, but it must be part of a network that includes a Thread border router.

That said, I cannot get my Thread devices to work with the Meraki GO access point, although they do work with another vendor's access point. I'm at a loss because my Thread border router remains unchanged. The only difference is the access point being used.
