Questions about NAT Mode usage

Hi,

I’m interested in setting up a guest network on my current network, and I plan on using NAT mode to do so. However, I’m a little concerned as it seems like I’m limited to only using a 10.0.0.0/8 network in this mode, and I already have devices on my network that are using this subnet. So I guess my question is twofold. First, will it be an issue to have both of these subnets co-existing on my network? And if so, is there somewhere on the dashboard where I can edit the subnet that is used in this mode?

Thanks!

Hi Naomi,

Good question! Yes, you can still use NAT mode even if an overlapping subnet exists on the network. Client traffic is translated to use the IP address of the access point when accessing internet resources. Therefore, it won't cause any addressing conflicts with your existing 10.0.0.0/8 network.

To answer your 2nd question, there is no way to edit which subnet is used for NAT mode. This is a fixed setting.

To learn more about NAT mode, you can check out this article from our documentation: https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Client_Addressing_and_Bridging/NAT_Mode_with_Meraki_DHCP

Hi @naomi-p

Worth reading the below document:

https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Client_Addressing_and_Bridging/NAT_Mode_with_Meraki_DHCP

This will work fine as the client devices will get NAT’ed to the IP of the AP.
