Can't setup device

Hello,

We are no longer able to configure Android with the deployment QR code (test with two new Samsung phones of different models).

However, this one was working very well recently.
Do you have an idea please? Thanks

What version of MDM are you using? Have you tried another version?

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

@rmohankmr Without knowing specifics, my guess is that they were setting up the devices on a wifi that had limited/restricted internet access and something in that was blocking the Meraki setup process.

When you are setting up the devices are you connecting them to a wireless network that is filtering traffic in anyway?

Hi @scheived,

We sometimes see this depending on the model/manufacturer and camera quality. A few suggestions I have been able to pass along successfully in past are listed below:

  • Attempt to resize/crop the Dashboard window (SM > Add Devices > Android) to only display the Android 11+ QR code, as sometimes certain cameras will grab the Android 10+ mistakenly and provide this error.
  • Utilize the 'pinch to zoom' on certain devices such as Samsung when the scan pops-up after 6 tapping, or even a slide to zoom on other manufacturers/models.
  • Attempt to use the front facing camera if the device supports the hardware. Sometimes this will allow the camera to zoom in properly on the QR code and allow it to read the QR code.

  • Downloading and resizing the QR code using software such as 'Image Viewer' in Windows or 'Preview' in macOS may also allow the QR code to be read properly.

Please reach out if you have any questions on this process!

Ah that was the issue, to print out the QR code it needs to be about 75% a full sheet of paper for the phone to read it. Even on a screen it needs to be pretty large.
