Business Practice - Managing empty lines

Just a non-technical question from someone who's  moving from 'managing by spreadsheet' to Meraki MDM.

We are strictly iOS devices, all company owned and all company responsible lines.   When I was managing by spreadsheet, I would simply highlight in red a line that was "vacant" (unassigned) if an employee left.    What are some of your methods for keeping up with vacant/unassigned numbers?

My first thought was to assign an owner of 'vacant' to the device in Systems Manager, but since vacant doesn't have an email address I can't create that owner.

You could create a tag with that name, and assign the tag to that device.

You could create a second Systems Manager network called "Vacant", and move the unused devices into that.

Both sound like good ideas.   Thanks!
