Android Enrollment Failed

Hi all, i have roughly 100 Samsung GT-N8000 tablet to enrol for one of our schools. I have setup a base profile to work from but i am unable to enrol these on the Meraki platform.
If i use the QR code, i get attempting to contact server, then communication failed with server. Similar response when i user the 10 digit code.
I am working from a wiped device, all be it version 4.4.2, which i am hoping is not going to stop me from doing this.

I have removed and reinstalled the Meraki SM app but again no change.

My concern is that the link generated is malformed. the reason i feel this is when i look at the link that is generated in the "Send enrollment email" is this "Enroll in Meraki Systems Manager by opening this URL on your Android device: https://m./enroll/cf/m_index?enrollment_code=XXX-XXX-XXXX" i have replaced the 10 digit code with X's on purpose but the start of the link looks wrong. I have replaced the first part with m.meraki.com but this leads to the page not being resolved.

All help appreciated.

Try upgrading the firmware on one of the devices first in case it is a firmware issue.

Have you tried browsing to the plain http://m.meraki.com/ url. That should resolve fine.

It brings me to this page:

Hi both, thank you for replying to my message,

Firstly "officially" the latest version these devices can upgrade to is 4.4.2 . "Unofficially" i have found updates up to version 6 (Marshmallow) ?. To be honest i dont mind doing this as the devices are all out of date and warranty so if must then.... ok ? i assume this is ok to do even though the devices would need to be rooted to do so. Is this frowned upon ? being a little bit new to using Andrioid devices.

Second, yes i can get to the m.meraki url from the devices. yes i did try this. It installed the app from play store and then i got to pretty much the same place as i am now where to app will no contact Meraki.

thanks again both.

I haven't clicked you were referring to Anrdoid V4.4.2.  The minimum supported version is 4.4.4.  Buy you really want V5 or above if you want any kind of actual control.

https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Other_Topics/Systems_Manager_FAQ#What_platforms_does_Meraki_Syst...

"Android 4.4.4 or higher including phones, tablets & more (Android Enterprise requires 5.0+)"

The other problem you'll probably run into is app support.  I don't think you are going to get a huge range of apps support Android 4.

I think I would try upgrading one - but I'm a but worried about how "fast" it will run on the hardware.  It sounds like the hardware is really old.

Hi Philip ! Thank you for the reply.

I will try to upgrade one to a newer firmware, but was a little unsure on the whole, putting a newer OS on these. OK they may run a little slower but then needs must.

As they were very kindly given to us, i want to at least get them to use the internet if nothing else.

Thank you again and i will update this thread with my results.

My recommendation on the Android OS update, would be try to stay as close to stock as possible and trying to get 4.4.4 or 5. Even if possible to go to later versions (6+), a lot of times it reduces functionality.

Hi @Primax98 ,

Android 4.x support was removed from Systems Manager a little while back. It's likely that currently enrolled devices will still connect, but we removed the ability to enroll new devices.

Our goal is to keep SM's OS/platform support as broad as possible but Android v4 had been out for 8 years and the addition of Android v10 meant that it was time to "shift up" in the list of supported versions.

@CameronMoody the documentation here:

https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Other_Topics/Systems_Manager_FAQ#What_platforms_does_Meraki_Syst...

Should be updated to reflect that Android 4 is no longer a supported platform.
