Fleet Operations

In 2023 we installed Starlink across our fleet of dredges, and some of our support vessels, moving cell to secondary and eliminating VSAT. We are now in the process of installing a second Meraki MX on each dredge and updating some of the older Meraki APs and local servers to provide better connectivity and security for enhanced operational support. This project is adding to and updating our vessels, which are already equipped with a combination of MX67 or MX68 Firewall, one or more MS225 switches, and outdoor rated Meraki Access Points to resist moisture and salt air. Wi-Fi is available in all living and work areas, and in most cases the primary connectivity challenge is overages with our Starlink service, almost exclusively due to streaming from mobile devices. 🙂

Kind of a big deal

Nice work, managing fixed networks is a challenge enough, having your networks floating around in the ocean must add a little complexity.

I am assuming these all link back to a HQ via a site to site VPN?

Some subnets, of course.

nice starlink success story, have not had the chance to be involved with using that service yet but it's slowing becoming a normal it looks like.
