Meraki MX Group Policy Has Been Supersized to Organization-Wide!

Greetings, all! For the longest time I personally have been at Meraki (it'll be eight years in August 😮), group policy has always been configured on individual networks. You'd select your network, configure settings like layer 3 firewalls, traffic shaping, scheduling, and others... but it was always done manually (or with APIs) on a per-network basis. Binding networks to templates was a sound strategy and provided a solid, consistent platform to build off of -- and templates still are quite useful in this case -- but now we're doing you one more and boosting the network-wide group policy up to the entire organization

This is convenient for so, SO many reasons -- too many to list here -- but I promise this'll expedite your Meraki configurations. You can check out the documentation on the feature yourself, but highlights include:

- Easily scoping your group policies to networks:

- Setting Rule profiles:

- And setting Objects and object groups:

Although this feature is currently scoped to just MX firewall group policies (more to come as it nears GA) it IS available in public beta. And yes, as always, the best place for you partners and Cisco employees to check out up-and-coming features is Meraki Launchpad. Give it a tour and let us know what you think in comments below, and brush up on your knowledge on group policy by checking out our FREE training on Firmware and Cross-Platform Features on our revamped Learning Hub!

And then :

  1. Meraki MX enforcement point cannot use Templates.

immediately closed the tab.

@RaphaelL , the templates bit didn't sit well with me either, so I did some digging: Apparently the MX enforcement point not supporting Templates was true during initial feature development and private beta, but now that the feature has moved further along things have changed. If you take another look at the documentation you'll see that caveat has been removed! I hope you get a chance to test for yourself 🙂

OH ! Wonderfull ! That's more like it !

To be honest we have 1200-1500 networks that are managed with templates and steering away from templates to support new features didn't sit well with us either. Glad this is not the case

FYI, I called into support about activating this to test and tech said it's not something he has access to and wasn't even sure of the process and was reaching out internally. Seems like not everything is quite synced up on this being public beta yet.

I think for now the best platform is to use Launchpad until things sync up better 🙂 I'll be adding some org-wide group policies in that org to present a better demo today.
