📦 How to Demo

For you partners and Cisco employees out there, we just happen to have our CW9179F APs conveniently placed in our Meraki Launchpad 🚀 demo organization. Head to the Meraki Launchpad 🚀 Subscription org after authenticating into dCloud, and you'll find our devices in the Santa Cruz network. Pay special attention to CW9179F-specific details under Radio settings on the device details page, and look for a new RF Profile unique to this AP's model.

Got questions or plans to deploy the CW9179F? Drop them below — let’s talk Wi-Fi 7! 💬👇 And remember, just like the ancient Spartan hoplites (probably) used to say, "Come back with your CW9179F, or on it!"

Can the CW9179F be managed entirely by the Meraki Dashboard / Cloud Controller, or is some form of on-prem wireless controller required?

I saw mention of these controllers (Meraki Cloud controller isn't specified though):

  • Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers (physical or virtual)
  • Cisco Catalyst 9000 switches with Embedded Wireless Controller in SDA mode

I also saw this:

  • "and using either on premises or cloud management" but I'm unsure if this requires leveraging the new "Wireless LAN Controllers" in the Meraki Console.
  •

Thanks for any guidance here - we would definitely prefer to be able to use it more or less like any other Meraki AP.

@tboo you won't need the new Meraki controller, that is only for large sites (1000s of APs).  Normal Meraki dashboard is okay.

Hey @tboo , yes you can absolutely manage the CW9179F via the Meraki dashboard, and for cloud management (Meraki) you don't need a wireless controller. I actually had to do very little to get my units online -- I just went through the normal dashboard process of claiming, adding them to a network, normal network connectivity, and poof! They came online like how I'd expect any other Meraki AP.

Incredible - thanks @cmr and @Phi-L  for the clarification here. Super helpful as these product lines become more integrated.
