Moving networks to a new organisation

Hi,

I just want to double check for any gotcha's when moving networks and their devices to a new organisation.

The setup is as follows:

Source organisation has - 18 networks with 93 devices in total (mx and mr) and 7 current licences.

New organisation will be 2 of those networks with 14 devices in total (mx and mr)

I have rw access to both organisations but am concerned about moving the licences and how i work out which of the 7 current licences I choose to move some devices from.  Does it matter ? and also if the oldest licence was 3 years from oct 2022 am I 100% safe that the current organisation wont lose any connectivity when taking licences ?

Also do I need to move network devices in a certain order IE MX first then MRs or vice versa?

Ive read on the meraki site it saying the dashboard config doesnt copy over and to preconfig the new network to match the current network.  Can i double check that means none of the network configuration would copy over so a move of devices would literally just move the device to show in a new organisation and not copy any configs at all and once moved the devices will just download whatever config is setup on the new network dashboard so if the new dashboard is unconfigured then the devices will pretty much wipe?

Thanks

Hey @peat have you looked in to utilising the Organization Split request feature via support?

Thanks very much I hadn't heard of that.  I will read into it.  Cheers

You can only use org split into a new org, not an already existing org that already has networks.

For sure there's some important caveats (absolutely read every line of their documentation @peat!) but based on OP's description it sounds like they've created only a shell second Org with nothing in it yet. They can just delete it if they go with the Org Split process.

I would consider paying for a tool like Boundless Digital to automate this for you.

That is correct.  You have to migrate all of the config yourself.
