Dashboard: Cookie preference (consent manager)

ConsentManager.png

For those interested, from the dashboard you can scroll to the very bottom of the page to find Cookie preference and toggle OFF the targeting cookies.

I was unaware of this until I explored it.  Perhaps it can be of help to others.  Not sure if this is regional or same for all regions.

After using cisco.com and related tools for half a day - there is a very noticeable speed difference.  It is so much snappier.  I have disabled both "Performance" and "Tagetting" cookies.  It's like Cisco.com just got upgraded.

Then I noticed the same options are available for community.meraki.com (do you see that "cookies" link in the bottom left?), so I am now using the same options to see how it goes.

My gut feeling is that the community website also seems to speed up.

I just did a quick benchmark using Chrome developer tools, Lighthouse, and incognito mode. With those two cookie categories disabled, the "Speed Index" on the home page's load time improved immediately by 7%.

I'd be happy if the Cisco web apps stopped breaking all the time.

It is a weekly occurrence for me to go into the Chrome developer tools, and delete the cookies associated with cisco.com to make web apps work again.

Wow, you have just given me an idea. I know that several of the Cisco web apps break when you exceed (I think) 255 bytes of cookie data (or maybe it is 1024; I can't quite remember now).  I'm guessing it is a WAF setting.

This would permanently reduce the size of all the cookies.  It might fix my issue with the reliability of the Cisco web apps.

I will be so happy if this is the case.

I wish I could give you extra kudos for this find.  Especially if it makes using the Cisco web apps more reliable.  It's one of the annoyances of working with Cisco.
