Mixing MX licensing

Mixing MX licensing

We have an MX400 with the Advanced Security licensing in production today.  We are thinking about using a vMX for a new site. Is there an Advanced Security licensing for the vMX?  If not, are we able to run both of these builds within the same network?

Note: If you wish to use subscription licensing, please refer to the MX and Z subscription articles for all the details. At this time, subscription and co-termination licenses can not be mixed in the same dashboard organization.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

You can mix a vMX with an Enterprise license into an organization with an AdvSecurity license. This was always possible because there is no AdvSecurity for vMX. Not in the same network but in the same org. And vMX is only for Cloud like AWS, Azure ...

Picking up on Karsten's point...   you mention it's for a new site.    Which doesn't sound like you intend it for a cloud platform like Azure or AWS (?)  What you can't currently do is run vMX on a hypervisor like ESXi or Hyper-V.  Nor (as the lack of Adv Sec license would imply) can you currently use it as a UTM for your cloud platform.  For the time being it's used to provide secure access to your cloud platform from your MX-based SD-WAN solution.
