I've found that a lot of "smart" devices do simply not work reliably using layer 3 and concentrator. Bridge mode however works perfectly, but activating the concentrator only allows reliable discovery and control of devices on the same AP as the management device.   Even hardwired devices become either noticably slower and more clunky or simply do not reliably work.   My guess is that most of these devices are a little bit too "clever" for their own good in trying to do transparent discovery and management.   Someone smarter than me can probably expand on this. ...
