I use the Cradlepoint devices with a parsec antenna.   I’ve had great experiences with this setup.  I’m in the oil field also, Permian, eagle ford, Rockies, etc...    some of the cp reps will provide POC gear do you you don’t buy an unknown.     good luck.  ... View more

Found it. Someone had change the bandwidth on the traffic shaping to 20M.   I apparently missed it in my investigation. I fell into the trap of looking for something complicated instead of checking on all the basics first. ... View more

User connection speed slow

I have a site with an MX65 and a MS120-24P behind it. The internet circuit speed is 100M. The connection between the MX and MS is 1GB.   When I have a user connected to the switch (with or without a phone in the link) that is only getting ~20MB. If this user connects to the MX the speed is ~95MB.   This is the first time I have run across this (I have 38 other sites). I have an open TAC case to investigate. I am currently being told there is a possible buffer issue and the Dev team is working on it.   Has anyone else run into this issue?   -Dennis ... View more

Device blocking by MAC

Has anyone found a way to block MAC addresses before the MAC is seen on the network? I have a request from layer 8 to block a group of new machines from being able to connect to the wire or wireless networks. Their only access will be via external wifi and VPN.         I know how to block devices once they are seen by the network but not before..   Thanks for you input.   -Dennis ... View more

Have you tried to re-deploy without deleting the original? Put it in a diff subnet and rebuild from scratch. Once it's up delete the old and enjoy.   Just my two cents.   -Dennis ... View more

It sounds like you have it right, I'll continue to look at it.   Check for any ACL that may be in place. I found one in my own environment sitting a switch that created issues.   -Dennis ... View more

I'm not quite sure I accept the Tech Support answer. I am seeing the UUID on machines I know for fact have manually added names. My machine name was changed from a previously manual name to a new name. My machine is now identified by the UUID.   It's clear Meraki is not going to adjust anything, which is sad. ... View more

To answer a few of the replies... I have both voice VLAN and QoS with no changes to them other than the mentioned OS upgrade.        I have now found that the UDP call is being dropped by the carrier after it does not receive the expected response from the phone during a call.    Changes on a test users phone: We change a single phone to use TCP vs UDP and will monitor the phone activity.   Thanks,   Dennis ... IP Phone call drops

by Dennis_S in Security / SD-WAN

I recently upgraded 76 MX (65/84/Z3) to the latest code, 14.39.        I am getting random reports of phone calls dropping after 30-60 seconds and one report of calls not going through when dialed. We have the SPA525G1/2 phones and a hosted VoIP service via a Metaswitch provider. *VoIP vendor recently upgraded their system also.    Once we reset the phone (power off/on) the problem goes away. We have one where the problem returned.   Switches are primarily MS120-24P.   I have not been ale to capture any of the drops to attempt to breakdown the connection data.    Does anyone have thoughts on what could be going on here?   -Dennis ... @Ben  Yes all devices can ping into Azure(vMX)... I have it working now.   The Boot Options section in the DHCP config is designed for PXE boot parameters. I added the correct info into the fields, "Boot Next-Sever" and "Boot filiename" once done PXE works great. (all of which you mentioned earlier)   Thanks for the inquiry.   -Dennis  ... View more

I have a twist on this setup. We are starting to use PXE for our W10 deployment. We are 100% cloud (Azure) with no servers or distribution points in remote sites. As of right now I have Option 66 & 67 configured in my DHCP scope on the MX. When we attempt to initiate PXE boot the PC simply sits idol with what appears to be no attempt the reach out.    Any thoughts different that already out there? ... View more

I'll try to interpret your design...   You have two location/buildings. One has internet and the other does not.    If all you are trying to do is link the two sites together then you can forgo the MX at the second location. Simply trunk the core switches and create the shared vlans.    If you wish to keep the separate you could use the MX with internet to service both site by connecting the site cores directly to the MX and use diff vlans in each site and L3 firewall rules to segregate traffic.   I hope you get the idea.   -Dennis ... All true. If I recall the pricing the license for the vMX is $5000 list price.    There is no HA for the vMX Azure will fail over to another host if required by a failure event. It is also a single legged device with both private IP and public like other Azure servers.   I've had one running now for 6 months with limited issues. All being on the Azure side due to host problems and the wonderful SouthCentral outage last month.    In all the vMX on Azure works quite well.   I hope this helps.   -Dennis ... View more

There could be a upstream firewall or NSG (Azure) that is blocking the UDP port.   -Dennis ... View more

I've heard they will eventually support the AnyConnect client. But nothing specific has been said about IKEv2. I agree it should would be nice to have a fully matured Client VPN solution.   -Dennis ... View more

I am trying to figure out how to offer DNS suffixes to clients when they connect to via client VPN to my vMX100 in Azure. I have the authentication working.   The problems are: Offering up a DNS suffix as clients attach.  Split tunnel configuration control Any help will be appreciated.   -Dennis   ... View more

John_D,   this is sounds like a default gateway or subnet mask mismatch or missing issue.  Verify you have them set correctly on all you devices.    -Dennis  ... View more
