Switch clone vs Stacked switch replacement

I just read through this doc:  https://documentation.meraki.com/Architectures_and_Best_Practices/Cisco_Meraki_Best_Practice_Design/Best_Practice_Design_-_MS_Switching/Templates_for_Switching_Best_Practices   The subsection called Switch Replacement Walkthrough for Stacks mentioned actually screen shots and copy and paste.  That seems sort of old school if we have templates and profiles.  Then I read there is a switch clone button option. Other than a few things, that might need manual changes, wouldn't a clone with edits be better than using screen shots to change out a switch ?    I have yet to even touch a Meraki switch, so this is a less than novice question.    ... I read about that, and it will be a big help. That was a reason I picked Meraki over sticking with traditional Cisco. I just would like to have our network already laid out and all the settings ready to apply to the switches as soon as I can.  I don't know if we have an order number, yet, because it's e-rate funded and my Director hasn't let me know when the vendor will get the check and place the order or however that process works.    Just trying to avoid the " Figure it out as you go " learning process.      ... We did not include installation in the bid. Just the hardware. I've seen a few demos form the sales rep via a remote session, so I know some of the screens, but not enough in depth stuff to feel confident in building a network and templates from scratch.    I'm looking at the Explore Webinars, linked above, but my guess, based on the titles is that they are not " How To...." videos but more sales videos.         ... Before the truck O' switches show up, where can I get Meraki training ?

I have around 150 switches showing up soon, and we have been a traditional Cisco shop until now. The sales guys all seem to just say, " Oh, it's easy. You do it all from the dashboard ! ", but that doesn't answer any questions. I know I need to setup a school district wide template of settings that will be on all switches, and I would like a school site specific template I can "push" out on top of that, if that is doable. I also want a best practice " Setting up a Meraki domain or network or what even term is used in this " universe ". I want to have it all ready to go, by the time the gear hits the sidewalk.    I'm just not seeing the online content for Meraki as I have for Cisco.      ... View more

Blake,   I hope so. The initial roll out generic setup of 150 switches by registering serial numbers was a tipping point toward Meraki. I still have reservations about locking our school district into permanent license costs from now on. Hopefully, after the paid for 5 years is up, we have no budget crisis.  ... View more

There are good and bad things about requiring the cloud for the switches. I almost stayed with traditional Cisco because of that.   ... View more

Southern California.    I have concerns that I will miss the CLI configuration details of Cisco switches. Copy-Paste, save config. Done. Changing to GUI and hoping all the things I want to do will be there to select is a concern. Gaining all the visibility of the switches and making global changes in real time, instead of pushing out CLI stuff from Prime Infrastructure will be a bonus.  I'll be in a mixed Cisco-Meraki environment for a while.      ... Our school district has had Cisco switches for at least 10 years. We are purchasing about 150 Meraki MS390 switches. This will be a big project and a big mental change in how to manage the network.   1) I've been in IT since about 1987. Working for a school district since 1991. Changed from more technician work to Network Analyst about 1.5 years ago.    2) I have never used any Meraki products.   3) I hope, with the communities help to roll out a truck load of switches with the least disruption and best configuration, as quickly and with as little stress as I can.    4) I have too many hobbies to focus properly on any of them.   ...
