Normal old internet access. But it's for a music school so there are many less common acoustic wall types that are likely to have a large impact on signal strength.

The question would be then can I estimate this within 10-15% accuracy? For example the built-in wall "Dry Wall" has a 4dB attenuation. Is it therefore safe to assume that each layer of dry wall accounts for 2dB loss? So an acoustic wall with 5 total layers of drywall would account for a total of 10dB loss? Is that a safe assumption or not? How much attentualtion is the fiberglass insulation introducing? So I'm looking for information on which I can safely base my assumptions. Can anybody point me toward any such resource?

I'm using NetScout's AirMagnet (but I've heard great things about Ekahau). Yes there are pre-calculated wall types included in AirMagnet but I'm dealing with rather specific acoustical wall types. So I need to create custom wall types. I can make an educated guess based on pre-built wall types but I need some assurance that my educated guess is correct. This is for a space that has not yet been built so I do not have the option to go onsite to measure the attenuation.

Hello, I am needing to calculate RF attenuation for various wall/ceiling types. Is there a resource that I can use for figuring this out? Thanks for your input PhilipDAth! Unfortunately in this case we are contractually obligated to produce a detailed report including images of wifi heatmaps. Our solution needs to meet our client's needs while providing fully documented justification for each AP. In this scenario, unfortunately, telling the client that I used my brain won't be a compelling enough argument. With all do respect to my brain. 🙂 Does anybody else have any software suggestions?

Ideally I would like to find a tool that works directly with a Revit model. Currently I am working on a multistory project which has not yet been built using Netscout's AirMagnet software and it is working fairly well. However, a lot of what I'm doing is redundant to information that is already in the Revit model (wall types, floor heights, AP locations, etc.). Also, there are a series of double height spaces on my current project and AirMagnet doesn't allow me to remove the floor from a particular section of a given floor. If anybody has a tool that they really like using to plan wireless networks (prior to construction) I would love to hear about it! And if it works directly in a Revit model that would be even better! Hello, I'm planning an installation of a series of MR53s using NetScout's AirMagnet Survey. They don't have the MR53 available as one of their default AP objects so I'm needing to make it. One issue I'm running into is with the transmit power because the suggested method of using this AP is to let each one determine its own transmit power. Any suggestions out there as to what a decent transmit power would be to use for modeling this system? The default value in AirMagnet is 10 mWatts. Does that sound reasonable to folks? Thanks!
