Roaming between 916x and native meraki AP

Hi,

for a client we are looking at the new wifi 6e accesspoints but also need external antenna versions, we don’t think these will get external antenna versions. Does roaming work with the older accesspoints and the newer platform? Is this tested? And what about feature parity?

This is rather important for large deals.

thx

@BKKR there is no reason that it would not work, but we are still awaiting our 916x APs that we ordered...

You could disable the 6GHz band if the models with external antennas are WiFi 6 only, as that would be the only potential issue I can think of.

We are going to mix them with WiFi5 models in the same room and aim to leave all WiFi6 and 6E features enabled, only downgrading if we see issues.

I'll let you know once we get them!

In WiFi 6E when using low power (lpi) access points (which will be the default) it is not allowed to use external antennas.  so no there won't be a 6 GHz AP with external antennas coming soon.
