MR70 Access point

Hi,

I'm trying to fund out if I can use a MR70 to get better wifi outside. Is this as easy as plug it in to a PoE Switch and that is it? I bought it used online,  anything to think of before connecting? As you can tell I'm not very good with this but google said this is a good one 🙂

I connected it to my switch and it fired up but haven't plugged in my modem to the switch yet as I don't know If I should configure it first and so on?

Appreciate all the help I can get 🙂

Hi @Larsonhenrik , I’d be more concerned that your used device isn’t still claimed on another Org dashboard.  Have you been able to add the AP to your own Meraki Org and Networks?

With regards setting the AP up. Once you’ve added to your dashboard simply fire up and configure an SSID based on your requirements.

Oh, claimed? can I reset it if it is? how can I find out? if I can reset it could someone claim it back or get in to my network? maybe this was a bad idea from the start hehe.

Hi @Larsonhenrik , start by logging into your Meraki dashboard and see if you can add the device via serial number.  If not, you’ll have to go back to the seller to see if they can unclaim from their side.  If they’re unable to assist then I’m afraid you have an expensive doorstop.  Meraki support won’t be able to assist

I will have to set up an account and try to add the device then, but if it was claimed at one point, can they re claim it then? oh man I thought I could just plug and play. or at least reset the device and that would do it.

They are generally plug and play (with a few tweaks) but we see this quite often with second hand gear. Hope it works in your favour.

well I guess this is a good system for when hardware gets stolen? I will give it a try and se what happens, fingers crossed. But again sorry, is it possible for past owners to reclaim then?

Yep. I can unclaim any device within my Org and reclaim at any point if not assigned elsewhere.

Have you purchased a license for the device as well?

No I haven’t bought anything but this device.
Didn’t know I needed an account period. But after doing some google search and help from you I do understand that I need one. If I need a license I would not be interested in using it and will probably us it  to even out concrete or something hehe

A 3 Year Enterprise license is not that expensive, given the ease of configuration, ease of management, ease of debugging connection problems, and effortless firmware upgrades.

I can give you a quote if you are interested.

I appreciate it but I’m not interested in paying for something that I don’t really need. What I understand I can use my device without a license? As long as I bought a device that was never claimed or declaimed so I can claim it.

we will see. Because I have the serial number and will try to claim it, will I see the past owner if it’s not been declaimed?

If you have the serial number and claim it without errors, it was unclaimed by the previous owner.

I do not think you can use it without a license though.

I think I'm just going to call it a bust. no matter if it's calmed or unclaimed I'm not interested in having a product I need to pay a license for. any suggestion what I can do with the device. I could check if I can claim it and then sell it? unclaimed it for the new owner of course. keep it for If I want to use in the future maybe.

I jumped the gun on this one. never thought you needed a license for a access point, you live and you learn

i am sorry to hear that, but I do understand your point.

Perhaps you could look at the Meraki Go access points.  The do not require a license and are easily managed by the Meraki Go app on your phone.

You can connect to internet any time.

You can add it combined with a license to the dashboard. Then configure it.
