Wireless WAN on X220

I've got a ThinkPad X220 that doesn't have a wireless WAN PCI-E card inside it, or the antennae (I can only see the WiFi antennae when I open it up). It does have a SIM card port underneath the battery, though.

Can I add wireless WAN to it?

Are  you referring to the mg21? This device takes care of the connection and let you connect  your device to a rj45 ethernet  port.

If you have good contacts, you might be able to find an original part, but the X220 is an old model and I doubt that many replacement components are still stocked. You might get lucky.

In your shoes, I'd consider using a LTE modem that would plug into a USB or Ethernet port. This would be easier to acquire, and would potentially offer higher throughput than you would get from comparatively aged technology.

Otherwise, tether a smartphone to the X220 and share the phone's connection.
