MS120-24P switch SFP port weird issue

Hi,

I have two SFP ports configured on VLAN 1 on my MS120-24P switch. Today, I attempted to set up VLAN 4 on one of the SFP ports. After completing the configuration and connecting the target device, it appears to be working. However, for some reason, RSTP is blocking the port, and I’m seeing the following message:
"STP discarding packet from this port.". Any suggetion.

Thank You!

Is this port in access or trunk mode?

What other device is connected to this port?

The port is configured in trunk mode. Another switch are connected to it.

Can you share a screen of the port configuration on both switches? Please.

These two switch ports are not connected . One of them has been shut down, but it’s still showing up in the topology. That might be the cause of the issue, but I’m not sure how to resolve it.

It would be a good idea to double check, as this could be the cause. Is there any chance of physically disconnecting the cable?

As for the configuration, everything seems to be fine. Do you have any other cables connecting these switches? Because the only explanation I see for STP blocking would be if you had more than one connection between them.

This shows you are using a native VLAN of 4.  The other end has to match.

With different flavours of spanning tree, I personally think it is safer to use a native VLAN of 1.

That message means the port is in an STP “discarding” state (blocking/disabled for user traffic) to prevent a loop.

Can you share a snapshot of your topology?

Do you have LoopGuard set here (both sides or ends)?  Or is this where you are having the loop?

I believe it is one of these switches, correct? Check if the port is actually configured to be down, otherwise disconnect the port physically.

But if the ports are not down this is actually the expected behavior.
