Do Port Management Privileges Allow Changing Client Names
We have several networks that we want to allow local personnel to administer, so we set up port management privileges on those networks for our "PortAdmins" (this is our term, not a Meraki term). The users are allowed to modify port settings on User ports (non-uplink, non-AP, non-high profile ports).
We would also like to transition away from "renaming" the ports as a descriptive of what is plugged in, and go to "renaming" the client object to something more desciptive and easier to find using a client search. However, it would seem that PortAdmin privilege does not allow for modifying the client name.
Is this correct? Does anyone know a way around it (without giving full rights to the Network or Organization)?
@Aaron_Wilson you are correct but some devices have horrible hostnames that are not easy to change and this is where setting them on the dashboard is useful.
@Kevin_Atchley be aware that updating the name on the dashboard only affects the dashboard and not the actual devices hostname, you are probably already aware of this but just wanted to make sure before you started heading down that path.
