vMX Firmware upgrade process

Hello,

We have installed vMX in Azure on version MX 18.211.5.2, and would like to upgrade the firmware version.

Can we directly upgrade Firmware from Meraki Dashboard or we need to redeploy the vMX?

Can you help me with the exact process of upgrade?

Thanks

Bolenath

The process is the same as upgrading any other Meraki device from the Firmware menu in dashboard.

so that mean from version 18 to 19.X looks not a major upgrades so we can directly from Dashboard? Not required of redeployment of vMX right?

Yes , that's correct ... We did upgrade recently to 19.1.9 and you don't have to redeploy any thing ... it's same as MX upgrade

In terms of firmware there should be no problem in upgrading from MX18 to MX19. Both major trains are supported.

That being said, what is the vMX you have installed in Azure? a vMX100 or the newr vMX-S/-M/-L?

It it's a vMX100, you may want to consider looking towards migrating to the newer vMX. But this will require destroying your vMX100 and provisioning a new one.

Then you can do the normal upgrade process without having to reinstall vMX without any problems.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.
