Newbie question about Security Appliance

Hi there, I'm new to Meraki and I was tasked to optimized our inventory. As far as I know we only use Meraki for our Wireless solution but I saw some Security Appliances in the Organization > Inventory.

How do I know if these devices are still in used? I'm planning to remove them in the inventory once confirmed (remove to organization).

These are the devices:

- MX450

- MX64W

- MX64W-NA

- Z3

I tried using the filter "unused" and "in-used" but I'm still getting result in "in-used" which I was not expecting. Is there other way to confirm those devices are not in-used?

Hi Nethusiast,

In the Inventory page, it should show the Network the device belongs to. From there, you click on the network and check if any recent client devices have been connected. You can also check the Summary Report for recent data as well.

Hi @IvanJukic , Thanks for the response.

I just checked the network column and most are used in a network. But we have 400 security appliance that has network in it, and I'm not sure if there's a better way to check if those are still active than looking on each device status one by one.

I tell you what. I have some free time today. Send me a DM and I'd be glad to walk you through this via Webex.

Kind of a big deal

You can see under Organization -> Inventory whether a device is added to a Network of not.

Checking under the "Network" column, if the device has a network listed, it is administratively setup to be in use.

You would then need to navigate to the network to see if it's online and active.

For devices that have no network listed, they are not in use.
