New Meraki MX 68 will NOT Onboard

I have a new Meraki MX68 and all it does is go to the orange/amber light after cycling through the rainbow colors.

I tried it at work then to have a simpler network, I took it home and tried uplinking it to my Ubiquiti, which is a basic NAT router, so it provides something like 192.168.1.0/24 with DHCP between 192.168.1.100 and .149

I have tried both Internet ports, different cables.  Tried holding the reset pin for 10 seconds (it actually restarts before then and I keep holding).  I verified if I plug the Internet cable into another device (laptop) that it instantly pulls an IP from DHCP, and the laptop works.

I tried a static IP on the laptop in the same range, which also worked for the laptop.  I logged on the web interface and put in the same static IP configuration using DNS 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 ... no change.  I am 100% sure my connection is Direct (not PPPoE) and that I am not using any 802.1q VLAN tags for this.

I tried leaving it overnight too...

Any ideas?  I have never run into this problem before to this extent.  I have seen behavior like this before, but it resolved on its own in a few hours of sitting.

Kind of a big deal

Have you tried to factory reset the MX? Have you checked the message that appears on the local MX status page?

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Hi @Justin_B ,

This kind of behaviour would be best addressed by Meraki Support on a case. I would recommend following the steps @alemabrahao has suggested to start with. Once you are on the Local Status Page, make sure you also grab the Support Data Bundle. This will need to be decrypted and reviewed by Meraki Support but it should provide more details about why the MX is having issues connecting to the Meraki Dashboard.

If you can, it may also be worth taking a packet capture on your uplink device to see what traffic is being sent by the MX appliance. This could also be uploaded to the Meraki case for review.

I have a case opened and uploaded the support bundle.  I have another guy taking it home to attempt to see if he has better results.

If not, yeah, I will do a packet capture.... will need to add an in-line device to do that, but good idea.

@Justin_B  I'd take a look at the local status page as @alemabrahao suggested.  I've found it usually has the answer...

You need to connect to the local status page to see what reason it is giving.

It could also simply be DOA.

The local status page has been saying cannot reach Cloud, No Internet etc.  but all other devices have Internet.

Same issue at a colleague's house.  Then he left it alone for a handful more hours ,and it started working without intervention.  Very strange but resolved..
