Meraki not issuing out DHCP IP addresses

Hey,

I am trying to set up my ubiquiti access points to have multiple SSIDs mapped to different VLANs, i.e. guest, staff but Meraki MX(which holds the DHCP server role), for some reason does not issue out IP addresses. The MX is connected to an MS switch which then connects to the access points.

The ports to the APs have been configured as trunk allowing all VLANs and the SSIDs have been tagged to their respective VLANs.

Do the VLANs all pass through the switch on a trunk port to the MX?

If so have you created each VLAN on the MX with an interface and a DHCP server?

Yes the VLANs have been created on the MX. The MX is the one running as a DHCP server and the VLAN has been configured to respond to DHCP requests on the MX.

I'd follow the below troubleshooting steps:

  • Configure a port on the MX in access mode for one of the client VLANs that isn't working.
  • Connect a client to that port, if it fails the MX is the issue, if it works...
  • Configure an access port on the switch, test again.  If that fails, it is the switch, or the link between the MX and the switch.

- Check to make sure your L2 is okay. So you by checking the MAC table on the switch where you connect  your AP's and see if you find the MAC address of your MX on the correct VLAN.
- Check if you are running DHCP snooping on your switches and are blocking DHCP OFFERS/ACKs
- Finally if you are sure this is all okay, run a pcap on the ports near the MX or the AP or both and check on port 67 and 68 and see if your DISCOVERs reach the MX and the MX answers with an OFFER.
