Hi all,
A company I do a managed service visit for are replacing their existing MX84 with an MX250, could anyone please offer any advice on the process? They would also like the MX84 to become the backup fail over device to the new MX250. My knowledge on Meraki is limited but as the technical manager has left I have to fill a huge knowledge gap!
Are the configs interchangeable? I'm hoping it will just be a case of applying the existing could config to the new device!
Thanks in advance,
Solved! Go to solution.
To replace it simply remove the MX84 from the network using the dashboard and then add the MX250.
Note that the network will retain the existing software imposed WAN speed restrictions of the MX84, so you'll need to go into "Security & SDWAN/SDWAN and Traffic Shapping" and increase the speed to a minimum of their Internet circuit size, or the maximum.
Also note the MX250 only has SFP+ WAN interfaces - so if you want to plug in a copper Gigabit Internet circuit you'll need to get yourself a Gigabit SFP.
Thanks!
That's a critical point to raise reg the warm spare setup!

PhilipDAth,
When we remove the MX84 will the cloud current configuration automatically apply to the new MX250 then?
Thanks 🙂
Yes it will keep the cloud configuration.
Thanks so much for your inputs, its very much appreciated.
Cheers!
If your MX84 is using AutoVPN (Meraki to Meraki site-to-site VPN), you might need to turn it back on again, but the underlying config will still be there; under Security & SD-WAN > Configure > Site-to-site VPN make a note, on the MX84 setup, as to whether it's set Hub or Spoke, then re-apply this after you put the replacement MX in.
