Is it mandatory to connect MX 64 directly to WAN port of modem.

What is i keep a switch in between them. Will it work.

No.  It can still work fine with a switch between them.

But it is mandatory that it gets Internet access via a WAN port.

Hi Philip,
Thanks for input, do you know what issue might occur with the presence of switch in between MX and Router WAN port.

As long as the MX has Internet access their wont be any issues.

Perhaps a stupid question, but if you put a switch between the incoming Modem and the MX64, how does the Ports get their IP adress ?

Thanks,

If you are using PPPoE only one device can get an IP address.

If you are using service provider DHCP only one device can get an IP address.

If you are using DHCP from a "modem" then many devices can get an IP address.

If you have a static /30 subnet then you can only put an IP address on one of the devices.  If you have a larger subnet you can statically configure more devices.
