MX60 Meraki Cloud Connectivity Issues

Hi,

I inherited a MX60 appliance a few years ago as part of the original Cisco / Meraki training sessions.

I used it originally but for one reason or another it was powered off and left in my garage for the past few years.  I have come to power it back on (with the idea of licensing it to use it for firewall on my home network), and the MX60 seems to be having issues connecting to the Meraki Cloud.

My firewall is currently a Sky Router and the inbuilt firewall is completely open outbound, however it is still having issues.  I have tried a static and dynamic IP, and have also performed a factory reset a couple of times.  Currently using OpenDNS for web filtering, however I have also tried Google's Public DNS (8.8.8.8).

I'm just looking for assistance, if possible, to diagnose the issue.

Thanks,

Craig

Kind of a big deal

Might be wrong but I don't think it will connect at all until you get the license situation resolved first (or did you already?)

Many thanks for your response.

I haven't yet, no, although that would make sense.

Do you know who could confirm this?  I'd rather not buy a license only to find out that it's another issue..

I would try to access the local status page to troubleshoot the cloud connection problem further. I'm pretty sure it should connect to the cloud regardless of the license status.

Not sure if the LEDs are the same on the old MXs but that could give more info about what's wrong too:

Hi,

Many thanks for your response.

The local page indicates that it is connected to the internet, but highlights an issue with firewall rules, specifically port 7734.  I've taken a look at the firewall requirements already (please see link below) - port 7734 is an outbound service only, and the default rule on the router is to allow any outbound services.

The device that the MX60 is connecting to is an Apple AirPort Extreme (which is also the DHCP server).  All other devices that are wired into this can connect to the internet with no issues.

From a troubleshooting perspective, I'm getting a solid orange power light, which indicates issues connecting to the Meraki Cloud (please see link below):

Thanks,

Craig

What does it say in the dashboard about the device?

Hi,

I've unclaimed the device in the dashboard, but when I had claimed it, its status was "has never connected to the Meraki cloud".

Thanks,

Craig
