MX100 Replacement

Hi,

The MX100 doesn't go EOS until Feb 1, 2027, but I am doing some budgetary planning and am considering the MX85 or MX95. I've looked at the MX Sizing Principles document, but was wondering if Meraki can pull any statistics from the existing MX100 to help in sizing a new MX? The only limit on the MX85 that I think I would be pushing is the Recommended Maximum Device Count, but what better than real life data/stats from the existing MX100 to help in sizing?

I'm not familiar with anything Meraki has to pull the data/stats you are inquiring about from your existing MX100.

The MX sizing guide exists to help you decide on which MX to go with based on device count, bandwidth limits, throughput, recommended VPN connections, etc.

Check out the Organization > Summary report for your particular appliance Network - and the Device utilization graph within.   If you expand the timeframe from the default (a week, I think) you can get a picture of usage up to maybe 3 months.  Have a read of this:   https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Monitoring_and_Reporting/Device_Utilization

Yes they can.

One number I ask for is the maximum number of sessions.  This number is published in the sizing guide.  You don't want to get anywhere near the platform session limit or the MX becomes unreliable.

Also check out the device utilization.

When figuring out what size of jump to, think about how much growth you might have.  For example, if you plan to keep a device for 5 years, and you think your company might double in size during that time - buy a device with double the capacity of now so you can grow into it.

The other thing to think about is the MX85 has 1Gbe Internet ports, while the MX95 has 2.5Gbe Internet ports.  During the lifetime of your new device is there any chance you might upgrade to an Internet connection faster than Gigabit?  If so, you would be throwing the MX85 away.
