Guest network setup

I see the “Guest network” setting/feature under the “WiFi networks” setting. Does this create a separate WiFi network than my core network for guests?

Hu @zuli,

Thanks for being the best part of Meraki!

The "Guest Network" feature actually does not create a separate WiFi network but rather enables the Client Isolation feature.

Client isolation sets up a local firewall that prevents users on the network from communicating with anything on else on the local network, including other guests, local network resources, printers, security devices, and any other networked resources. Users on a network with Guest network enabled will essentially only be able to reach the internet (unless there is explicit routing enabled).

If you were looking to have a separate network that your guests or customers can use and not congest your primary network, you would need to create a secondary WiFi network. In doing this, you will be able to manage both WiFi networks independently and adjust settings based on the needs of each network. On the secondary network, you might consider turning on the "Guest Network" mode to enable client isolation to prevent clients from communicating as this recommended for best-practice user security.

You can read about the "Guest Network" feature more in-depth our Meraki Go Documentation portal. This can either be accessed via the Meraki Go app under Setting>View Documentation. I have also included a link below so you can access the site via a web browser.

Getting noticed

For upstream firewalls, or times you want to vlan a ssid it would be nice to be able to tell the ssid what vlan to use

Hi @Ryan_C!

Sorry for the delay in response.

At this time the VLANs are not supported with Meraki Go.

If you would like to see this included in future Meraki Go versions, you can post on our Make-A-Wish board to request the feature and it may be included in a future release!

Let us know if you have any additional question!
