Favourite tool of the year: XCA

I just came across these excellent tool - XCA.

https://hohnstaedt.de/xca/

It is a free Windows tool that lets administrators run a CA - easily.  You can easily create certificates for your users for WiFi authentication, process CSRs, export in all the common formats, and have the database shared amongst your support people - so anyone can generate the certificates.

Amazing.

Thanks for sharing. Any idea who is or who are behind this? Quick "recon" suggests its a individual contributor based in Europe

Yup, and I've met him too. He works at the company I used to work for. His name is Christian Hohnstädt (or Hohnstaedt as it's sometimes spelled) and he's from Germany. Very friendly guy!

I used to use XCA almost daily, it rocks. But it's been ages since I've used it. Since being in presales I haven't found a need.

New here

I have been using XCA since Version 1.4.x, I just recently installed 2.5.0 and want to move the CA to my new Win 11 computer. I believe if I export from my old machine the crt file into my new XCA then the database will follow. It that correct?

With my new XCA all the operation button for each tab are greyed out and not operative. I unblock the file before and verified the checksum so I am quite sure it was a complete install.
