Building a map tile server

I have a Python script that creates a website using data from a website.  The website is an aviation website, so I want to create my own tile server.

Does anybody here have any experience building your own tile server?  I can get the images from FAA as GeoTIFF.

I'm still working on my website, but I'll post a link when I'm done.  I'm hosting it from my laptop at home.

I don't know the answer - but have you considered using Amazon AWS to make life easier?

Linux running on a t2.micro instance is only about $10 per month - and Amazon will give you the use of the virtual machine free for 12 months.
