Splash page information

Hello, I am very new to Meraki. We have a Cisco wifi in place on an offshore vessel. We are trying to decide the best way to monitor and control data usage for our members. We have people that are somewhat permanent on the vessel but we also get a lot of transient personnel.

We have several SSIDs set up for the different department but are having issues tracking the usage of each device.

We explored setting up a whitelist based off of MAC and SSID but it seems very cumbersome especially with random MACs on cell phones. We need to be able to identify high usage members.

I am exploring splash pages but am wondering what is the best type for our situation. Below are a few questions I have:

  • Best type of splash page to monitor and control data usage. I am thinking a sign-on splash page.
  • Will a splash page work on multiple device for a single "login"? Example, a member has a cellphone laptop and kindle, will a single credential work for all 3?
  • Will Meraki report usage per credential?
  • Does the SSID need password as well if you have a splash page?
  • Would I need to set up passwords for each member manually or will the system do that automatically?

Please forgive me if these are obvious questions as I am in no way a network administrator.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind of a big deal

You could create a series of group policies with "Per-client bandwidth limit", and apply them to specific machines to limit their Internet speed.

You can see device usage under Network-Wide clients.

You could use a single SSID, and use iPSK.  You give each user their own iPSK.  You can enable the iPSK column in Network-Wide/Clients, and then search on each individual user.  You can also automatically apply a group policy using this method.
