SENSO app on student iPads is blocked by 'Restrictions' setting on Meraki but which one?!
We are an LGFL school and been given free access and actively encouraged to install SENSO. Safari and any other browsers are removed, the SENSO app is custom pushed out to devices and students login using Microsoft credentials to browse thus allowing monitoring on the iPads, viewed on a central console.
This works perfectly when no restrictions are applied to the iPads however there are a set of suggested Restrictions on Meraki and a number of them have been applied since we first started using Meraki. Something is blocking SENSO when the restrictions are applied. As there are about 100 potentials, wondering if anyone else has encountered and knows what to avoid so that I can test what the implications might be for security on any other apps?
Have so far turned off previously engaged settings as follows:
Age range
iCloud iOS: allow managed app to store data in icloud
Managed apps cloud sync
app installation
UI app installation
UI configuration profile installation
but so far no luck. I'm going to be here a long time turning everything off and on to test! Any ideas as to what could be causing the block. The app turns up in Meraki SM but never installs if the group restrictions are applied.
Solved! Go to solution.

So the culprit has been identified and I note here to inform anyone else who might find themselves in similar circumstances. Firstly Restrictions was a red herring; the culprit was an additional home screen within Restrictions which meant it was fighting against an existing Home Screen, resulting in the app not appearing despite being held in the payload of SM app on the iPad. Once this additional Home Screen was removed, the app appeared and functioned correctly. Thanks to wise counsel of Meraki support for the guidance which seems to have resolved this issue.

I'm going to guess it needs a browser to work. Just a guess.

thank you for responding, the way it works is it goes directly to the browser which I have set in the app settings. It does work but only when the restrictions are not on, that is the part of the puzzle I'm trying to unpick. As soon as I put the restrictions on, the app is sitting in SM waiting to install but doesn't ever go onto the iPad.

Hello @RuthxD, it will be best to submit a ticket to get one of our SM engineers to look at the network and the existing restrictions that can be affecting the app SENSO. That being said, can you check if the app is being managed by SM or was it installed manually? Here is an overview of all the Restrictions we support and how they are intended to work.
