Creating experiences with SSI-Tree: How an eco-system partner is starting a tree planting revolution
The Sustainability Challenge
Pressure is mounting for all departments within organizations to do more. The topic of climate action can seem overwhelming, especially when trying to find solutions that can integrate smoothly with your technology stack.
Looking to how other companies are increasing their sustainability efforts, can be one source of climate action ideas.
Our Light Bulb Moment
As we held discussions for our Net Zero Office, we knew we needed to design a solution that offset emissions generated from our network, while bringing a positive experience to our guests. Given our emphasis on sustainability, we wanted to refrain from buying additional equipment and instead, leverage our existing hardware. The Lightbulb moment was our Meraki wireless. After a few late nights powered by endless coffee, we built SSI-Tree. The solution we’d later bring to market via the Meraki App Store.
How Does it Work?
Watch. Connect. Plant. The concept was simple. When a guest enters your building and connects to the Wi-Fi, SSI-Tree plants a tree.
A mature tree (usually after 10 years old) can absorb as much as 22kg of carbon each year. According to several studies, in today’s world the most impactful and cost-effective way of taking carbon out of the atmosphere to help tackle the climate crisis is to plant trees. They remove carbon, produce oxygen, create habitats, and generally help an eco-system thrive.
SSI-Tree is delivered via a splash page that sits in front of the guest Wi-Fi network, therefore giving a company the opportunity to not only do good, but also advertise a message via a video, statement or questionnaire.
It’s a unique way for an organization to highlight a part of their sustainability agenda.
If a business offered you the opportunity to plant a tree for an action that would take you no longer than 15 seconds - what would you say?
When we see businesses get behind such powerful initiates, we see change. We want to extend the tree planting revolution into small, mid and enterprise companies to help them plant more trees.
