In-App purchase is not supported - machine licensed app does not support in-app purchase.

Hello,

I have had no training and I am at my wits end. I have Meraki and have since gotten Apple Business Manager. Apple says it's a Meraki issue. (if I had a buck for every-time the buck was passed!!)

I have 50+ tablets to setup all IDENTICAL. (I'm using one Apple ID, I feel his might be a mistake)

Combinations of free, free with in-app purchase, paid, and subscription based applications will be needed.

If I setup one tablet, make all the purchases and back it up, the restored Tablets work just fine, BUT I haven't made the correct purchases, and can't. I receive the message "In-App purchase is not supported - machine licensed app does not support in-app purchase."

I have changed the VPP setting for this app from Device to User, to none, and no change. Each time removing the app from the device.

For example:  https://apps.apple.com/us/app/boop-kids-smart-parenting/id1319441682

My Goal is to issue these tablets, quick and easy.
Doing them 1 by 1 with unique Apple ID's would have been faster, so far..

You would not normally use an Apple ID at all on the devices.

First you need to get the devices DEP enrolled.

https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Device_Enrollment/Apple_Device_Enrollment_Program_(DEP)

You should also have the Apple VPP program setup for making the purchases.

@NEOFACS_Darcy  App's purchased using the VPP sotre do not support in app purchases.

I find this roadblock usually with free app's that allow you to use a certain portion of the app beofre you need to fully unlock it using an in app purchase. Apples recommendation to developers is to create a full paid version to get around this, I have had to contact some developers in the past to request this, most aren;t aware in app purchases don't work wit VPP licensing.

I had this issue too. the short answer as laid out below is that VPP does not support in-app purchases nor subscriptions.

That said, the work around I did was:

  1. Assign the app to an VPP Apple ID (We had already established a corporate catch-all Apple ID prior to VPP)
  2. Assign a particular user to receive the invites for licenses (in this case me, note invite email does not have to equal Apple ID used for these assignments)
  3. Deploy App
  4. On device go to App Store, sign in with assigned Apple ID and download app onto device (limitation 10 devices)
  5. Purchase subscription/in-app purchase via app

This process is outlined via:

https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Apps_and_Software/Apple_Volume_Purchase_Program_(VPP)

Thus far I have tested this process with an in-app purchase on an Apple TV and a Subscription on an iPad app.

Ideally Apple should enable this via Business Manager, but being it's 2020, I'm not holding my breath.
