vIP Setting Issue

I have a question about vIP of MX setting.

When I set vIP, It have to put IP address.

In this case, If I set vIP should I get static IP from ISP ?

If I get only dynamic IPs(no static IP) from ISP, How can I set vIP ?

Thank you,

Thanks ww for your answer.

I think I can get /29 ip address(Dynamic IPs).

If you scroll down on this blog post I did a little bit ago, you'll see the section for vIP.

It will require you to have a /29 to be able to use it correctly

Thank you NolanHerring,

But my question was not /29 bit issue.

I'd like to know that whether it needs static ip or dynamic ip when I set vIP.

There are two types IP(static ip and dynamic ip) in Public IP.

Static IP is more expensive than Dynamic IP.

Thank you,

If your getting a /29 (which you need for vIP to work), then it is going to be static.

Thank you,

You mean to set vIP, It needs static IP not dynamic IP, right ?

Correct

Your ISP will give you a /29

Lets pretend they give you 68.10.20.40/29

On your end you'll use those IP addresses however you see fit on your firewalls, but for a vIP it would look like this:

Network Address: 68.10.20.40/29

Usable IP: 68.10.20.41 – vIP
Usable IP: 68.10.20.42 – WAN1 – MX1
Usable IP: 68.10.20.43 – WAN1 – MX2
Usable IP: 68.10.20.44
Usable IP: 68.10.20.45
Usable IP: 68.10.20.46

Broadcast Address: 68.10.20.47
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.248

@kuniyes, you need static IPs (a /29 as @NolanHerring has shown) for the virtual IP setup.
