Those of you providing these brilliant solutions take time out of your day to help out your fellow Meraki fans, and we thought it high time you get some recognition. Now, every time your answer is marked as a “solution,” you’ll be one step closer to earning these fresh badges: The badges: You’ll earn this badge after you've received your first Accepted Solution -- that is, after someone has marked your response as the answer to their question. “But how do I get started?!” you may be asking. The unanswered topics page is meant for you! Once you’ve knocked 5 questions outta the park with your knowledge, you’ll earn this badge. This badge is earned after you’ve made 10 people’s day by providing them with solutions. Or you made one person’s day who’s clearly having a hard time. What if I’ve already done all that? It’s time for our September Member spotlight! For our sixth Member Spotlight, we chose to recognize @RumorConsumer. Since joining, he has written 104 posts and received 17 kudos! We've really enjoyed learning about the lovely retreat center! Congratulations!🏅 👏 Tell us a little bit about your background. I have been into technology since I was young and worked for Fortune 500 tech giant for about 6 years before moving on to pursue other interests. My taste for technical challenges started early in life and I have always been the person who gets called on to help if something doesn’t work. I love solving problems and bringing flow back where there isn’t any. I started managing a Meraki network at a retreat center where I now live and was initially quite averse to it. It seemed irritatingly finicky and generally unstable. I decided to start reading the manuals and discovered that some things hadn't been set up quite right and began straightening the network out. It now purrs like a kitty cat. How does the community help you in your day-to-day work? The community has been an invaluable resource. I have come to rely on the community for insights and experience from people who have had boots on the ground for lord knows how long. People like that with real world experience are priceless. @PhilipDAth, @BrechtSchamp, @BlakeRichardson, and @NolanHerring have been simply incredible in terms of helping me understand how to make my network work as well as possible. These guys are my heroes. I often get a knowledgable response within an hour to many of my questions which is simply unheard of. What’s your advice to folks looking to move to the next level in their Meraki / networking knowledge? Keep reading the manuals. Keep asking. Search first, but ask as many questions as you have. You will be helping yourself and building the wealth of information and expertise we have here. Test it in real life. Buy hardware you don’t understand and use it, play with it, and if you don’t want to keep it return it. If it’s good you should want to keep it. What would you say to those who haven’t yet gotten involved with the community? If you haven’t gotten involved in the community you are either: a) using a very simple network and don’t need help which is fine b) probably not getting the most out of what you’ve got c) have an elegant amazing network and are hoarding all your knowledge so get in here and share what you got! Meraki Community All-Star, @jdsilva, artfully crafted a community-oriented scavenger hunt/trivia quiz. In addition to creating the questions and answer for this challenge, he will be helping us judge! The rules for this challenge are simple: provide your answers to each of the questions below (make sure your answers are numbered correctly) in a single comment on this post before the challenge ends on September 16th, at 10:59am PDT. Each month, four community members are highlighted based on their accumulated kudos and solutions. However, originally MOTM only counted kudos and not solutions. What was the total number of kudos earned by the very first four MOTM? Originally, the MOTM were based solely on Kudos, but today they are a combination of Kudos and Solutions. In which month/year MOTM iteration were solutions added to the scoring for MOTM? The Meraki Community managers are known to hold contests for community members to engage in and have a chance to win swag. One of these challenges received a number of entries equal to the total number of kudos earned by the first iteration of the MOTM (note that comments on the challenge from Meraki employees do not count as "entries"). What is the name of this contest? The Meraki Community was officially launched the same day as a major astronomical event that was viewable primarily from North America, but could be observed in many other places around the world too. What was this event, and on what day did it occur? Prior to the official launch of the Meraki Community, there was a beta period where some lucky folks were invited to assist with some initial testing and feedback. These members received the Founding Member badge. How many members received this badge? After the beta period ended and the community launched, seven members were recognized for their exceptional contributions during the beta period. Who are these seven members? The Meraki Community has badges that are awarded to members for various accomplishments, and displayed in their profile. One of the first badges a new member can earn is the Lift-Off badge. What are the requirements to earn the Lift-Off badge? There are two different badges that have been each earned by only a single member. One is the Year 1 MVP earned by @PhilipDAth for his staggering contributions during year one of the community. What is the other badge, and who was it awarded to? The Meraki Community is more than just the message boards! In 2019 the Meraki Learning Hub was added to the Community as "THE place to learn about Meraki's training offerings". Not to brag, but I think we can all agree that this is the best peer-to-peer community for a cloud-managed IT solutions company named Meraki out there. And it’s made so great by all of you, our members. We’ve traditionally highlighted our top four members each month — but we know this community isn’t JUST comprised of our top members! That’s why we’ve upgraded our monthly recognition to Members of the Month 2.0. We still highlight the top four contributors overall (based on kudos and solutions), but we’ve added a couple other acknowledgements which focus on other types of contributions that we think are also integral to this community’s success. The Meraki Community turns two today and we couldn’t be more proud! Only a year ago, our little community was just knee-high to a pig’s eye, and today it’s grown to more than 25,000 members! * Sniff * They grow up so fast 😭: . With such wild achievements, how could we forget some of our most favorite memories of the past year, like when we launched the All-Stars program (a whole month ago!)? Or that time we learned that y’all LOVE explaining things? And, of course, we mustn't forget the endless gnome shenanigans we all find so endearing! But of course, you, our community members, say it best. Everyone loves a compliment shower, especially on your birthday! “I am amazed and impressed by the responses to questions posted here in this community. My early apprehensions about being treated with aloofness disappeared in a hurry. I now kick myself for not communicating with you good folks earlier! It’s time for our August Member spotlight! For our fifth Member Spotlight, we chose to recognize @vassallon . Over the past year and a half, he has written 285 posts, received 153 kudos, and contributed 17 solutions. Congrats Nathan! Tell us a little bit about your background. I've been involved with IT for over 25 years now. I started out in college at University of Alaska Fairbanks helping manage user accounts, performed call center support for a major computer manufacturer where I learned about Cisco Networking and moved into system administrator work. My first Meraki experience was 5 years ago when I started working for the school district here where I live. It was quite the shock to go from the windows world to being the MDM guy for a school district and managing 4000+ iPads. As we were looking to move on from the controller based Cisco Wireless environment to a new wireless network it made sense to jump into the Meraki APs to go along with the MDM, we have since added Meraki switches into our environment we are truly a Cisco/Meraki district as we utilize both Cisco and Meraki switches through the schools. How does the community help you in your day-to-day work? The community is wonderful resource for any questions I might have. It's nice to have a sounding board of fellow users where I can ask if anyone else is having the same issues that I run into before engaging support. The community also allows me to expand my Meraki knowledge by reading topics that might not pertain to what I do in my day to day job. What’s your advice to folks looking to move to the next level in their Meraki / networking knowledge? Anyone looking to improve their Meraki knowledge should check out the Meraki Learning Hub for upcoming training classes. Some other fantastic resources are the Meraki Webinars and Demos and Trials. I myself need to learn more about the Meraki API and how best to utilize it when I make massive changes within the school district. While we do our best to make sure it’s organized, locating something specific in an endless stream of posts can still feel daunting. Fortunately, there are a few different ways you can search the Community and we’ve outlined them here! Basic Search The easiest way to search the Community is through the main search bar on the homepage. Here you’ll see suggestions of relevant posts or articles pop up as you type. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, simply hit enter to search. Once you’re viewing the results page, simply scroll through the provided articles until you find what you’re looking for. Advanced Search If you wish to narrow your search criteria, you can do so on the results page. Here you can specify whether you’re searching for post content, a specific user, or a place (board, category, or blog). You can further narrow your search by specifying any or all of the following: Board in which you wish to search (Wireless? Security Cameras?) Author of the post you’re looking for Date of the post Metadata (whether it’s marked “solved” or “kudoed”) Post type (is it a forum post or a blog article?) Content contained in post (are there videos, images, etc.?) You can also change how you sort your results: Lastly, by clicking “Advanced” you can limit your results to topics or specific posts and you can specify the number of results you see per page: Google Search You can also utilize Google search to look for content within the Meraki Community by typing "site:community.meraki.com" in the search bar, followed by the topic you wish to find.
