How Can I Play My Mac’s Videos and Music on Apple TV?

Hey everyone,

I’m really confused and could use some help. I have a bunch of videos and music in my Mac library, and I want to watch/listen to them on my Apple TV, but nothing seems to work right. Do I need a special app?

Any guidance would be amazing!

It seems like everything is in the same VLAN, but for some reason it doesn't work. Thanks, I'll take a look at the document you provided.

Can you please explain your networks topology, Airplay uses Multicast traffic to advertise itself to devices and if this is blocked you will find it won't work.

I would start by putting the client device and AppleTV on the same subnet and confirm that works first. I always suggest starting with the basics first.

Make sure the SSID is configured for bridge mode (if you change this, you'll need to reboot your WiFi devices).  Don't use NAT mode.  As @Mloraditch noted, you may also need to enable Bonjour forwarding.

You don’t need anything fancy. I use Elmedia Video Player on my Mac and it’s super easy. It can play almost any video or music via AirPlay.
