Wifi and Windows 10 Family

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with Meraki Wifi and a Windows 10 Family client.

All SSIDs work perfectly for all corporate computers and personal computers.

Except one, which works with Windows 10 Family.

For all SSIDs, I get the following message from Meraki in the browser:

"The network's administrator hes prevented you from using the network"

There is no filtering on SSIDs.

If anyone has a tip for Windows 10 Family?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

What method of authentication are you using on the SSID with windows 10 family PC is trying to connect to?

Thanks

Hi Andy,

We have 4 SSIDs, and none are running on the Windows 10 Family.

SSID 1: WPA2-Enterprise with Radius

SSID 2: Open With Splash Page

SSID 3: Pre-shared key with WPA2

SSID 4: Pre-shared key with WPA2

Thanks

Kevin

From - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17199/windows-10-set-up-your-family

Adults in the family can manage family settings online at account.microsoft.com/family, and changes will be applied to any Windows 10 device the child signs in to.

To set up a PC for people already in your Microsoft family, select the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Family & other users. Select their accounts to add them to this PC. The first time they sign in, they’ll need to enter the password for their Microsoft account.

Hello Robin,

Thank you very much, but the problem does not concern my family.

The problem is on a computer from my company that has a windows 10 family.

Thanks.

So a work computer is running Windows 10 Home edition - just upgrade it to a Pro version.

Amongst other things, Win 10 Home does not do -

  • Domain Join Feature
  • Group Policy
  • Azure Active Directory Domain Join, with single sign-on to cloud-hosted apps
  • Enterprise Mode Internet Explorer (EMIE)
  • Remote Desktop Feature
  • Client Hyper-V Feature

"Family" features may be set up on computers with Win 10 Home edition installed. In some markets, such as France, Win 10 Home Edition is marketed as Win 10 Famille.

Explanation in French

Robin's point is that computers in "family" mode are managed from the link provided. There is no "family" edition of Windows 10 - it's something you can enable on the Home edition SKU.

Are you sure it is Meraki saying that?  Any chance it has some content filtering software on the machine itself?

What happens if you Whitelist the machine?

Is the machine getting the DNS servers via DHCP?
