Optimal Wifi Coverage in a Campus Housing

Optimal Wifi Coverage in a Campus Housing

We are looking for some information on the best way to setup Wifi in a Student housing complex.

 - What are the best RF settings people are having success with?

 - What are the best Access Point models for this type of situation?

 - What does the spacing look like in a complex like this?

 - Is there a Meraki Survey or design software that we can utilize?

Hi @BenjaminMulwana

in all honesty you’re best engaging with a wifi survey company as they’ll be best placed to answer these questions and complete a survey based on your requirements.  Scrimp and cut corners at this point and you’ll regret it

Kind of a big deal

Re: Optimal Wifi Coverage in a Campus Housing

Generally, in-room access points work better than access points in hallways outside of the rooms.  Take a look at something like the MR30H.

If you have areas where a lot of people gather (like common spaces) check our the MR56.

Allowing everyone access is the easiest solution.  If you want to do per-user controls check out the Splash Access education system.

It allows students to onboard their own devices (smart phone, play station, etc).  It allows them to roam around a facility.  And it allows you to disable individual student accounts.
