Network That contains both an MR access point and a security appliance with integrated wireless.

So we are in process of upgrading a remote site to the MX84 for better VPN throughput. We currently are using MX64W and MR32 AP in the space and were wondering if it was possible to keep the MX64W in use as a WAP instead of buying a new MR33 to keep the wireless up at its current status. Is this possible with it being considered its own appliance (the MX64W), be like associating it similar to the current AP and meraki switch we have on site instead of a seperate device? Thanks!

Yes, it is possible.  But much easier to just get a second AP.  Have a think about how much effort you want to spend supporting the site in the future.

You can have just the built in WAP but it is very limiting. Best way to explain it is consider the built-in is on par (or less) with retail grade AP and the MR is commercial grade. It's pretty much wifi on/off, broadcast SSID, and normal authoication like WEP, WPA, WPA2, and WPA2 Enterprise. If you are wanting splash screens, ACLs, etc then it's better to use MRs.
