Hotspot 2.0 on MR-AccessPoints

Hey folks,

is there someone who is actually offering a PassPoint / Hotspot 2.0 Network using Meraki APs?

The documentation is not so overwhelming: https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Other_Topics/Hotspot_2.0

But there are OpenRoaming resources available here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/enterprise-networks/802-11ax-solution/openroaming.html

I’m curios whether I could combine the splash page with Hotspot 2.0 or at least use it without additional tools and controllers.

Thanks 🙏

Kind of a big deal

I personally am still trying to find a use for this functionality. In my opinion there are other more interesting features that could not be implemented. 😅

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Hey, that’s true, but I think that the upcoming PassPoint integration in Client-OSes is great. Windows 11 shows PassPoint networks with a tooltip and I would like to implement it aswell.

Here to help

We are experiencing a great adoption of Passpoint in the past few months, on top of the Meraki network.

There are many use cases and most of them work in parallel to standard Splash Pages for guests.

Here are some examples:

  • when customers buy tickets/make reservations online, they receive a Paspsoint download profile link to pre-activate WiFi before they arrive
  • new employees/associates get invited to activate WiFi by obtaining both a Passpoint profile download and WPA2-E credentials as a backup for devices that do not support Passpoint
  • When customers signup to loyalty programs from any touchpoint, they receive a text message to activate WiFi
  • When patients sign up on their medical group website/apps, they get invited to pre-activate WiFi so they are online when they visit clinics/doctor offices

One of the use cases with the most traction is related to the empowerment of the mobile app with automatic and secure Passpoitn connectivity. This, not only provide seamless connectivity to the app users while in-store, but unlock location services to app users regardless of their OS location permissions.
