Getting The below Failed connection on my Meraki AP MR-53

Hello All,

We are getting the below errors on our meraki access point

===========================================================

Client attempted to associate 3 times on the 5 GHz band.t

ype='Association attempts' num='3' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

Client made a request to the DNS server, but it did not respond.

type='NO DNS response' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

Client made a request to the DHCP server, but it did not respond.

type='NO DHCP response' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

============================================================

We have almost done all troubleshooting but its not resolving the issue because of which clients are getting frequent internet disconnection and slow internet and wireless health report of the AP is stuck in 85 to 100%..

Hey there!

Which firmware are you running, who is your DHCP server, an MX or your own?

How is the DHCP availability for that pool looking?

😎

We are running 26.7 latest one... DHCP on a dedicated server..

DHCP pool is enough

Connection to DHCP server on a wired PC is not a problem.. internet browsing works fine..

Issue is happening on wireless only..

Kind of a big deal

Can you validate the switch port configuration for the AP? How do you have the SSID access-control setup? I would say in my experience, its been 'normal' to see some devices run into those issues (due to the nature of networking in general, plus wifi on top of it), but not 'constantly'. If you see constant issues then there is an underlying problem, very possibly not wi-fi related too.

Hello Nolan,

My switch port configuration is as below

switchport trunk

switch port no negotiate

power inline auto

please share with me the reference switch port configuration with your expertise

Are you using VLANs?

yes for local users and guests...

I'm not aware of any issues with the MR53s and the firmware version 26.7, however there is one issue that has occasionally popped-up affecting the MR45/55 with wireless clients trying to get an address from DHCP.

Just to eliminate the possibility of this problem with the 26.7, are you able to roll back to the latest stable 26.6.1 and re-test?

Dear All,

Has anyone encountered the below errors on their Meraki AP'S

===========================================================

Client attempted to associate 3 times on the 5 GHz band.t

ype='Association attempts' num='3' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

Client made a request to the DNS server, but it did not respond.

type='NO DNS response' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

Client made a request to the DHCP server, but it did not respond.

type='NO DHCP response' associated='false' radio='1' vap='0'

============================================================

can you please check are they affecting browsing speed or we should ignore them,

Hi,

I am getting the same sort of error messages. I have MR42 running on MR 27.1 firmware.
On the previous stable fw I was getting the same issues.

A few per day.

Client made a request to the DHCP server, but it did not respond.
type='NO DHCP response' associated='false' radio='0' vap='0'

One error every 10 minutes on multiple devices.

Client entered wrong password.
type='WPA-PSK auth fail' associated='true' radio='1' vap='0'

Also getting the same errors.

In conjunction with these errors happening. I've been working with Meraki support and they are telling me they can't figure out what is causing these error below.

Wed Aug 19, 2020, 10:23:18USER1AP1StudioAuthentication
Client entered wrong password.type='WPA-PSK auth fail' associated='false' radio='0' vap='1'
Wed Aug 19, 2020, 10:20:57USER2AP2StudioAuthentication
Client entered wrong password.type='WPA-PSK auth fail' associated='false' radio='0' vap='1'
Wed Aug 19, 2020, 10:08:06USER3AP3StudioAuthentication
Client entered wrong password.type='WPA-PSK auth fail' associated='false' radio='0' vap='1'

Can't pinpoint what is causing them, Meraki support has asked me to provide pcap but I can't run the pcap and catch them happening at the same time.

New here

Hi all,

We have the same problem here. It seems that the devices have unstable connection with the AP's.

Still no solutions for this problem?

I am starting to get these error messages as we "Client entered wrong password.type='WPA-PSK auth fail' associated='false' radio='0' vap='1' "

Hey Ranjit,

Sorry to dig out an old thread but I am having this exact issue out of nowhere today!

MR45s running v27.6 - have been working fine but all of a sudden I am seeing almost 100% DNS failures on some APs at site. Wired is working fine, DHCP has plenty of space, DNS server is online, etc..

Did you find a particular fix for this problem in the end?

Hello DB,

We also did not a have a fix to it...

I will advise you to work with Meraki TAC....

Hi WB,

Have you fixed this issue? I'm having the same problem now.

Hey DV17,

So mine was potentially linked to a switch issue but not convinced. We had a Cisco 9500X layer 3 switch at this particular site that had some high CPU % usage at the same time of the DNS errors.We upraded the IOS on the switch and restarted all the MRs in the same change window, after that the DNS issues stopped occurring.

We had a similar issue recently at a second site, this time round we just bumped the MR firmware to v27.1.1 and it seems to have done the trick for that site.

The only common step across both of our occurrences to fix has been a reboot of all the MRs!

Hi WB,

Fixed the issue. We reload all switches including core 1 and 2. After that everything is working properly.(We got an IP tv issue at the same time)

Thanks for your reply!
