Block client from accessing YouTube via policie group

Dear team,

I have a question about layer 7 on the meraki network. Our customers use AP MR42 on their offices, and they want to block users from accessing YouTube, but some clients don't go over wifi but use LAN cables, when I apply Policie for this client MAC in Group Policie, the clients is using cable without going through AP applicable? Customers use a mixture of nonmeraki devices

I think the only Meraki-driven solution for this is to route the traffic trough a MX device.

If you apply a group policy on a MAC while not having a wired device where the traffic from that MAC flows through, you cannot apply any security policies to that particular client.

Dear friend,

Customers use MX100 on the Network, but their system does not completely use swich meraki, they use regular swich cisco, the problem here is that when Meraki MX is a firewall, Group Policie can be applied to devices in that network or not?

Hi @HPID

MX100 is a Security Appliance (Firewall) which can work independently.

You can certainly apply MAC based Group Policies to devices connecting to NON-Meraki Switches.

Make sure to have your VLANs on MX.

Incase you have a L3 device (Non-Meraki) below MX hosting VLANs  you may apply IP based group policies.

Thanks @AjitKumar ,

Do you in lab?, have you verified through practice with this case before?

Step 1. Edit a Group Policy Object (GPO) that applies to the users you want to configure URL blocking.

Step 2. Navigate to User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer Maintenance > Security and then click on the “Security Zones and Content Ratings”

Step 3. Select “Import the current Content Ratings settings” and then click on the “Modify Settings” button

Step 4. Click on the “Approved Sites” tab

Step 5a (Black List). Type the name of the URL that you want to block in the “Allow this website” text field and then click “Never” then “OK”
