Meraki Webhooks with Solarwinds

Hello all!

I am looking for information to see if anyone has configured this before. I am looking at the Webgooks documentation and see that it is advertised to work with Solar Winds. I am aware that you can use SNMP with solarwinds and have even configured this myself in a lab test and I was not satisfied with the level of alerting and monitoring this provides.

I want to keep the focus of this post specific to Solarwinds & Meraki API Webhooks, not SNMP.

Review this documentation: https://documentation.meraki.com/zGeneral_Administration/Other_Topics/Webhooks

As you can see from the page, Solarwinds, Remedy, Pagerduty, Zendesk, Servicenow and  Zenoss are compatable for alarms.

Does anyone have experience configuring this on the Solarwinds side?

Kind of a big deal

Hey @ToryDavenport .

You certainly may get lucky here and someone might know the answer, but perhaps this is a better question for Thwack?

Hi @jdsilva I just posted over there. Thanks for the suggestion, I will update here if I find any information.

+1 on Thwack

Also I couldn't find a specific guide on it. One question though, what is the purpose of the webhook vs email alerts? Solarwinds I believe has an email you can hit with alerting devices.

A really good use of Webhooks is to post alerts into different platforms. For example, we have added our Meraki devices into Solarwinds using the Dashboard API. We then use Webhooks to post alerts into Microsoft Team.

Example below: MS.Teams_SW.png.

Hi Joe,

Could you please provide links to solarwinds and MS team for this API integration?

I'm a beginner, not sure where to find them.

Hi Richard,

Have a read through on the below article. Some good examples on how to set up.

Thanks

Joe

Couple answers for you here:

1. Solution: You can use Zapier to receive the webhooks from Meraki and then take the appropriate action in Solarwinds. Here is a guide for Webhooks integrated with Zapier for Webex:

https://developer.cisco.com/meraki/build/network-alerting-in-webex-teams-with-webhooks/

2. Solarwinds NPM version 12.1 supports Meraki MR access points but it does not use Webhooks for its implementation. Solarwinds NPM uses Dashboard API polling and SNMP polling. The API polling is currently only setup for MR access points.

3. Webhooks is "new" in the last few months, so Solarwinds has not had time to update their NPM. I suggest contacting Solarwinds and requesting they update their NPM to include Webhooks from Meraki. Solarwinds is dedicated to moving towards APIs, so I think they just need the feedback!

Hi,

There's a 'FEATURE REQUEST - Integrate Meraki webhooks with NPM' on thwack community for Solarwinds to add this feature.
If you want also this feature in NPM go there and add a comment.

Thanks.

New here

I know I am a little late to this discussion but I have set this up before. It worked really well. Here is a link to the documentation I went by: https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/Success_Center/NPM/Content/NPM-monitor-Meraki-devices.htm

You will need an intermediary to ingest the webhook and take the appropriate action in SolarWinds.  Solarwinds has a pretty robust API.  What exactly are you hoping to accomplish with this?  I could help you with some Python code if you want.

Hi CCIE-Adam,

you have integrated Meraki Webhooks with Solarwinds, and it's working well?

Can you share how you accomplish that?

Thanks, in advance.

I have not integrated Webhooks with Solarwinds but it's possible.  Like I said, you will need an intermediary to ingest the webhook and take the appropriate action in SolarWinds.  That intermediary can get the webhook then decide what to do with it in Solarwinds.  Then it can make an API call to Solarwinds to update it.  There is no direct integration via Solarwinds.
