Difference DNS Layer Protect cisco umbrela and layer 7 meraki device

Hello all,

there is a new feature on the wireless traffic shaping dashboard, CISCO UMBRELLA, I think the features are more or less the same as the MX meraki feature

1. What are the advantages of the cisco umbrella? can it reduce the device access point load with attach link dns umbrella?

2. For those who use access point meraki, of course we pay quite expensive for licenses, why is the umbrella DNS link not given free, of course, will give the advantage of access point?

Kind of a big deal

Cisco Umbrella is (or was/used to be) OpenDNS. OpenDNS does technically have a 'free' mode but its for home use only and not business. Its a paid for service, and Meraki just made it much easier to tie into/implement with their solution. You still have to purchase a license for it, that has never changed.

It would be nice if it was free. Closing thing to that is in the NAT mode (block adult content) but otherwise its still a business and they need to make money I suppose 😃

If they embedded the cost of it by adding a few more dollars to a license fee that would be nice 😃

Hi Nolan,

Thank you for the information, it turns out that only changed the name from open dns to cisco umbrella, I agree if it's free: p. or they add a few $ as a Cisco Meraki loyalty program:) ... if I ask to buy MX or cisco umbrella, so it's a better Cisco umbrella including malware and phishing diagnostics and the database is always updated:) ...

Regards,

Segara
